Stephen Sondheim's wonderful reimagining of Grimm's fairytales
Step into the world of fairytales with North Carolina Theatre's brand new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's classic musical. Recently adapted for the big screen with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and James Corden, Into the Woods is a wildly imaginative weaving together of the Brothers Grimm stories, featuring some of Sondheim's most dexterous and witty lyrics.
The story follows a baker and his wife who are cursed by a wicked witch, and must venture into the woods to find ingredients for her latest potion. On their journey they encounter everyone from Red Riding Hood to Cinderella, but not quite as you know them. The show's original 1987 Broadway production was awarded three Tony Awards, including Best Score and Best Book.
