Soul comes to Raleigh with NC Theatre's production of Dreamgirls!
Be transported to the world of showbiz with Dreamgirls! Follow the triumph and torment of a talented trio of singers as they storm the charts and become the toast of the town.
Dreamgirls first arrived on Broadway in December 1981. Since then the production has become an iconic must-see musical, garnering multiple awards including a Tony Award for Best Musical (1982). With inspiration taken from notable Motown artists such as The Supremes, The Shirelles and The Temptations, this production truly brings back the soul!
What is the story?
Aspiring singers Deena Jones, Lorrell Robinson and Ellie White travel from Chicago to get their big break after being discovered by ambitious talent agent Curtis Taylor Jr at an amateur competition. Curtis lands the young female group named The Dreamettes a job as backup singers for soul and rock n' roll sensation James Thunder Early. He continues to mold their rising career but the dream threatens to unravel as fast as it began when he chooses to put Deena as the group's lead rather than vocally more talented Effie.
Starring Broadway's Saint Aubyn, Joy Woods and Nya, you wouldn't want to miss this! Featuring show-stopping Motown-inspired numbers including "Steppin' to the Bad Side" "Cadillac Car" and "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going".
