Why See North Carolina Opera - Carmen?
Love her at your own risk
In a whirlwind of swishing skirts and fiery passion, Georges Bizet's famous femme fatale explodes on to the stage, a perilous force that upends all she comes into contact with. Directed by Fenlon Lamb and starring Aleks Romana as the ruthless titular character opposite Sean Panikkar as Don Jose, enjoy this production from the North Carolina Opera as they bring the alluring Carmen to life, capturing the intensity of this classic masterpiece.
What is the story of Carmen?
Carmen is a provocative Gyspy woman, whose short temper brings her to the attention of the kind and charismatic Don Jose, who falls head over heels in love with her. A thrilling tale of love found and ruthlessly taken, Carmen is one of Opera's most vivid and engaging pieces, a dance of lust and revenge that go hand in hand, making for a fiery, unforgettable finale. Coupled with Bizet's recognizable score that includes the pieces 'Habanera' Seguidilla', and 'The Toreador Song', it is no wonder that it continues to dominate 143 years after it first premiered!
