Marvelous Tchaikovsky with North Carolina Symphony
Marvelous Tchaikovsky with North Carolina Symphony
Joined by violinist Vadim Gluzman, the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky's timeless and only Violin Concerto, as well as the composer's majestic 1812 Overture, composed in commemoration of homeland's successful defence against the French invasion of that same year. Conducted by Carlos Miguel Prieto, this marvelous program is opened with Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe.
Known to American audiences for its association with fireworks displays on Independence Day in the US, the excellent 1812 Overture features a climax reminiscent of cannon fire, with a triumphant fanfare closing out the piece. The Violin Concerto, meanwhile, is one of the Tchaikovsky's most beloved across the globe. Violinist Lewis Geneva stunningly takes the lead on the work, one that was once deemed unplayable' due to its technical difficulty.
