Why see Carolina Ballet - Jewels?
A Carolina Ballet First
Carolina Ballet breaks new ground in November, marking the first time ever that the company has performed George Balanchine's Jewels in full, with the music performed live, no less! Originally created by Balanchine in 1967 for the New York City Ballet, Jewels comprises three parts, Emeralds, Rubies, and Diamonds, with each act being set to music from different composers; Emeralds to Gabriel Faure, Rubies to Igor Stravinsky, and Diamonds to Tchaikovsky.
George Balanchine has often been called the father of American ballet and was one of the founders and longstanding artistic director of the New York City Ballet. He was the recipient of several awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art. Don't miss out on an opulent night at the ballet, with this glittering production of one of his greatest ever works.
